A motor minesweeper is a small minesweeper, powered by an internal combustion engine, very often of wooden construction, designed to locate and destroy mines in coastal waters and harbours. Many navies have used such ships. The term might refer to any of the following: * Auxiliary Motor Minesweepers (YMS), United States Navy, Second World War. * Bluebird class minesweeper, United States Navy, Cold War. * BYMS-class minesweeper, built in the USA for the Royal Navy, Second World War. * Ham-class minesweeper, known as the "Type 1" of the British Royal Navy, operated by more than a handful of other navies though. * HMCS Bras d'Or (1919), Royal Canadian Navy, Second World War, sank with all hands in a storm in 1940. * Kuha-class minesweepers (1974), Finnish Navy. * MMS-class minesweeper, Royal Naval, Second World War. * R boat, ''Kriegsmarine'' (German navy), Second World War. * Sasha-class minesweeper, Soviet Navy, Cold War. * YMS-1-class minesweeper, United States Navy, Second World War.
